The Katz Files – Arnie Katz

Highs & Lows of the (4/15) Wrestling Week!

The Kingfish Arnie Katz spends his Saturday morning reviewing the peaks and valleys of the last seven days!

High: Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle had one of the year’s most dramatic and exciting matches at Lockdown. Joe finally will get the championship run that he has wanted, and many fans believe he deserves.

Low: The pseudo-MMA stuff pretty much killed the first half of the match. It bodes ill for wrestling if YNA plans to do much more of this. Choreographed MMA is about as exciting as a rest hold.

High: Chris Jericho did a fantastic job of inserting himself into the Batista-HBK feud with his interview on the 4/14 RAW

Low: A tri-corner feud is never as intense as a two-man animosity. In addition, it’s sad to see Batista – the 21st Century Bruno Sammartino – be nudged into the heel column.

High: The RAW brand is trying to bring back the tag team division. The number-one contenders match, on the 4/14 episode

Low: The teams currently in play aren’t necessarily the best. The team that won the number-one contenders match is a case in point. Carlito is a good worker, but Santino Marella is more of a comedian than a credible wrestler.

High: The Awesome Kong/Raisha Said vs. Gail Kim/ODB match at Lockdown was another feather in the cap of the Knockout Division.

Low: The Queen of the Cage match was better than the usual WWE women’s match, but it was a poor concept and the rank-and-file Knockouts did little to distinguish themselves from the WWE Divas. It might be better to keep the non-wrestlers out of wrestling matches and give the ones who can work a stronger push. TNA has three marquee women’s wrestlers and badly needs to develop one or two more.

That’s it for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with another installment of the Internet’s fastest-rising daily wrestling column.
