The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
Nobody Asked Me, But…
The Kingfish Arnie Katz continues a “Katz Files” tradition with answers to some ticklish questions that no one asked him.
Nobody asked me, but…
… After fans got used to it, didn’t the darkness in th Citrus Bowl make things seem more…dramatic? It diminished action in the ringside area, at least until they got some lights on around the ring, but everything inside the ropes seemed grittier and more real. Reminded me of clips I used to see from the Bayfront Arena; Dusty Rhode, bloody and seemingly beaten, would rise from the canvas to deliver the Atomic Elbow!
… Isn’t it time for WWE to make peace with the one man whomost deserves to be in any WWE Hall of Fame, Bruno Sammartino. The promotion owes its existence to him, since it was acrimony over access to him that caused WWWF to diverge from NWA.
… Isn’t Matt Hardy rising to the occasion? They’ve plugged him into Jeff’s spot and he has done everything one could expect of a pinch grappler.
… How can they expect fans to believe Big Show can beat Great Khali when he couldn’t do anything against Floyd Mayweather? The WWE will feel the reprecussions of that boxer-vs.-wrestler match for some time to come. At least Big Show is sliding back into a babyface character, which is much more suited to his real, sunny personality.
… Weren’t you glad to see Paul London and Brian Kendrick together again as a team? I couldn’t blame them for doing the “divide and feud the team” plot, which is so traditional in pro wrestling, but this duo is really the best in a tag team division that desperately needs their energy and skill.
… Didn’t WWE handle the Ric Flair retirement well? It didn’t hurt that it utilized three of wrestling’s best talkers, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair himself.
That’s it for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with another installment of the Internet’s fastest-rising daily wrestling column.
