The Katz Files – Arnie Katz

WrestleMania 24 Pros & Cons!:

The Kingfish Arnie Katz checks out the pros and cons of the big event coming this Sunday!

WrestleMania is almost here. The year’s biggest-of-the-big wrestling events will take place onm Sunday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL.

With WrestleMania so close, is it any wonder that fans are ruminating about every facet of “The Grand Daddy of them all”?

In that spirit, here are some pros and cons that come to mind as we look forward to the largest WM of all time.

Pro: Both major championships will be on the line with top-rated challengers bidding for the coveted belts. The WWE Championship will be up for grabs in a Triple Threat match (Orton-Cena-Tripe H), while Undertaker and Edge will square off for the World Heavyweight Champinship.

Con: The United States Championship, InterContinental Championship, Women’s Championship, both tag team titles and the Cruiserweight Championship will all not be defended at WrestleMania.

Pro: Chavo Guerrero will get to defend his ECW Championship at WrestleMania, which looks like a step up for WWE’s official designated stepchild promotion.

Con: Before we can enjoy that match, we’ll have to sit through a 24-man Battle Royal that is loaded with guys who can’t work much and/or hold no interest for the fans. It would be nice if one of the guys who cam work won this so the match against Chavo Guerrero will be decent.

Pro: So far at least, no member of the McMahon family (unless you count Triple H…) is slated to wrestle. It’s called addition by subtraction.

Con: This year’s non-wrestling guest stars are not an inspiring group in terms of star power. If their actual performances are good, that’s what counts. Even though they’ve got a guy named “Legend,” they’re a little short on them.

Pro: The Money in the Bank Ladder Match is a guaranteed winner. It includes some of WWE’s best performers. It’s also good that there is actually a point to the match; the title shot has proven important in the past.

Con: This is not a knock on WrestleMania or WWE, but it’s hard to think about the tragedy of Jeff Hardy, who might’ve taken this match as a springboard to a ttile run if his problems hadn’t intervened.

Pro: The Brand Supremacy Match brings together two of the most dynamic power wrestlers working today, Umaga and Batista, in what shapes up as a brutal, exciting showdown.

Con: The match itself is meaningless. “Brand Supremacy” is a meaningless concept and, if it mattered, this wouldn’t be the way to determine it. I can’t help feeling that Batista should be fighting for a major title.

That’s it for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with another installment of the Internet’s fastest-rising daily wrestling column.
