Texas Legend Gary Hart Passes

Legendary World Class manager/booker, Gary Hart, has died. Hart passed away on Sunday. The cause of his death was unknown at the present time. Hart was in Allentown, PA on Saturday for an autograph session relating to World Class.

During his career, Hart worked primarily for the World Class area, but he also had runs in the NWA and Florida. Some of the top names that Hart managed were: Terry Funk, Buzz Sawyer, Chris Adams, Dusty Rhodes, The Great Kabuki, King Kong Bundy, Great Muta and Pak Song.

Hart was the driving force behind World Class. He was the creative force that kept World Class as the hottest territory of the time.

On a personal note, Mr. Hart often came by Smith Hall at the University of North Texas. The old building not only housed the college radio station that I worked for, it also held the classrooms where Bill Mercer taught sports broadcasting. Mr, Hart came by to talk with Mr. Mercer from time to time. I remember one brief encounter with Mr. Hart. He was an incredibly intelligent man who was kind enough to take a few minutes to “talk shop” with a starry-eyed young reporter. Thank you for that memory, Mr. Hart. And may the next life bring you peace, joy and happiness.
