Great Canadian Wrestling (1/31) Preview: Final Night!

It’s a scalding-hot card, topped by a six-man main evenmt!

Great Canadian Wrestling
FINAL NIGHT!

Royal Canadian Legion,
Oshawa Ontario.
Thursday January 31

The aftermath of NEW YEARS EVIL is still in the minds of GCW fans. It was pure chaos at the end of the main event when a near crippled Otis Idol cost his Ontario Top Team brother, Andrew Davis, the GCW Championship.

Otis was a man on fire when he wasn’t allowed to fight Phil Atlas earlier in the show. Then during the championship match Idol ran in off the street and took it out on the champion Atlas, causing Andrew to be disqualified!

A huge brawl ensued when the Tag Team Champions, The Flatliners, hit the ring to help Atlas. The Flatliners’ bitter rivals (and huge fan favourites) Hayden Avery & Cody Deaner soon followed.

By the time the dust had settled Otis Idol had once again been tombstoned on his injured neck, Hayden Avery had his knee smashed by a chair (doctors expect him out 4 to 6 weeks) and Cody Deaner had been duct taped to the ropes and beaten senseless……all while Andrew Davis refused to fight and walked out on the whole scene!

So the main event has been signed:

Otis Idol, Andrew Davis, and Cody Deaner vs The Flatliners & Phil Atlas in a 6 man WAR!
Also signed for January 31st…..FINAL NIGHT:

Due to his recent rise up the ranks of GCW, Sebastian Suave (along with his sleazy manager Jamie Virtue) is set to face international superstar Hornet. With Suave having built up a winning streak and Hornet fresh off his win over the talented Mike Rollins the match will be a NUMBER 1 CONTENDERS match for X-tremo’s Ontario Championship!

The Winner of the Hornet vs Suave will face X-Tremo for the championship in February!

The W.I.L.D. Championship will be defended on January 31 with the cute but evil Porta Perez defending her belt against no.1 contender Miss Danyah.

Danyah is always known for being extremely will prepared and in tremendous fighting shape at the time of her big matches, and this a big one. The champion Perez has wrestled all over North America and the world……..fireworks are sure to fly during this special womans attraction!

Next match announced is going to be a fight for the ages. Bruno “Bam Bam” Davis has signed on to face the Squared Circle veteran and Lucha Libre master El Sombra!

Bruno Davis and Josh Alexander had the match of the night at GCW’s New Years Evil. But with Bruno losing to a small package he is hungry to get back the winners share of the purse. El Sombra brings speed, high flying, and lots of experience into this match. The violent Bruno had this to say about the match and his opponent.

“El Sombra is going to get his spine mangled. I shouldnt have ever lost to Josh Alexander, but I got cocky. I was in control and stopped beating Alexander up just for a second. That wont happen this time…..Sombra, you should just stay home and save your family the medical bills”

More matches to be announced asap including the debut of “Surfer” Kelly Damon, Crazzy Steve, Montreal’s Profit and Kenny the Bastard!

Upcoming airtimes for new episode of PWO TV:

Saturday night, January 26: 2:30 am
Sunday night, January 27: 10:00 pm; 4:00 am
Tuesday night, January 29: 4:00 am

Currently scheduled for the broadcast:

Josh Prohibition & Johnny Gargano vs. Marion Fontaine & Josh Abercrombie
Recently, “Mega Star” Marion Fontaine became the victim of the numbers game when outside involvement from Johnny Gargano and Lexi Lane cost Fontaine his match with Josh Prohibition. Fontaine knew he had to enlist some help, and after consulting his very bizarre and charismatic advisor “Macho Grosh”, Fontaine emerged with an old friend, and someone he can certainly relate to: Former MTV star and competitor known all across the United States, Josh Abercrombie. Abercrombie and Fontaine were last seen charging to the ring, looking for a fight when our last broadcast went off the air, and now they’ll finally get what they want. The numbers will be even as the most unstoppable duo in PWO today Josh Prohibition & Johnny Gargano, with Lexi Lane watching their back, do battle with Marion Fontaine & Josh Abercrombie, with Macho Grosh watching their back. Will the mustached megastars be able to avenge Fontaine’s prior singles loss or will the Prohibiton/Gargano alliance find another way to escape on top?

Vincent Nothing Makes His PWO In-Ring Debut
Recently, Vincent Nothing made a huge mark on PWO and made a major statement at the expense of one of it’s biggest stars. Nothing, who was not under contract to Pro Wrestling Ohio, appeared out of the crowd, brutally assaulting the giant Jason Bane in the middle of Bane’s match with “Amazing” N8 Mattson. Nothing made it very clear that he was not about to be overlooked and was none to pleased that the phone call from PWO to offer him a spot on the roster never came. Nothing intends to prove he is more than just a tag team wrestler, that he can dominate the Ohio wrestling scene once again, just like he dominated Cleveland’s tag ranks for over one year. Nothing makes his PWO debut against Michael “The Bomber” Façade, a graffiti enthusiast and self-described “Suburban Terrorist”. How will Nothing fare in his first outing against the tough competition of PWO? And how will Jason Bane react when he’s in the same building as the man who assaulted him for the very first time?

Gregory Iron vs. Virus Grande
Gregory Iron scored the biggest win of his career in his first match back from a life-threatening concussion, cleanly pinning the man many call the future of pro wrestling in Ohio, Johnny Gargano. Since that time, we’ve learned of Greg’s difficult upbringing. From coping with cerebral palsy, to dealing with abuse and drug use in the home, rather than destroy him, Iron has used adversity to make himself stronger. Through it all, wrestling has always been Iron’s driving force, and it seems now his career has finally turned a corner. However, one man who intends to stop Iron’s recent swing of momentum is Virus Grande. He and partner Virus have spent the past several weeks tormenting “Bloody” Morty Rackem, severely injuring Rackem’s tag partner, and also stealing his priceless heirloom swords. Will Virus Grande be able to steal a victory over Gregory Iron? Or will PWO’s most inspirational star go when step further to seeing his dreams come true?

Cronus in Action
He has been, quite simply, indestructible since his PWO debut. The near limitless brawn and power of the monstrous Cronus, mixed with the diabolical greedy mind of Agent Aaron Maguire has led to one of the most dangerous combinations in recent times. Maguire has stated Cronus is so dangerous, he’s had difficulty finding opponents willing to sign their name on the dotted line to face his charge. Well, this week, Cronus will be matched up against two. Young competitors Benjamin Boone & Bobby Beverly have signed on to the task, but have they signed their death certificates in the process? Agent Aaron Maguire unleashes Cronus wants again, and when Cronus gets competition, Maguire gets cash.

M-Dogg 20 Will Be In Attendance
“The Innovator of Aerial Insanity” M-Dogg 20 Matt Cross has been battling a very serious leg and groin injury in recent weeks, but has informed PWO officials that although he is not yet cleared to compete, he’s going to make an appearance at our next television broadcast. Rumors circulate he may be there to support Gregory Iron, whom M-Dogg has aided in the past when it came to Iron’s troubles with mutual rivals Josh Prohibition & Johnny Gargano. What does M-Dogg have planned this week? And how will the rest of the PWO locker room react?

Morty Rackem in Attendance
“Bloody” Morty Rackem will join us with comments pertaining to his recent troubles with Virus & Virus Grande, the status of his tag team partner, and what the future may hold. What message will the bloodthirsty pirate give to the men who stole his most prized possessions?

Tune in the weekend of January 26th for all that and more! Remember, Pro Wrestling Ohio is only available on Sports Time Ohio! If Sports Time Ohio is NOT part of your DirecTV or Dish Network package, no matter where in the U.S. you are, call your satellite provider today and demand STO! ANNOUNCED CARD

Just added this week…

PWX Title Match: Scottie Gash vs. Chris LeRusso vs. Bobby Shields

Our original scheduled bout of Gash’s title defense against LeRusso one-on-one was amended this week, following weeks of complaints and protests lodged by a very vocal Bobby Shields. Shields, LeRusso’s former “Steel City Saints” tag team partner, is of the belief his one-time ally has been handed opportunities time after time, while Shields has been cast aside by the powers-that-be. Can the reigning champion Gash overcome the challenge of both of these young lions? Will Bobby Shields prove he was the true star of the Steel City Saints? Or will Chris LeRusso live up to his hype as the fastest rising young star in Pittsburgh today?

Jimmy DeMarco vs. Chris Taylor

Jimmy DeMarco has quickly gained a reputation as perhaps Pittsburgh’s most infamous athlete. DeMarco’s unorthodox actions have led to him being labeled a mental, emotional, social, and sexual deviant. His bizarre tendencies aside, he is also one of Pittsburgh’s most dangerous athletes, and an integral part of the success of The Gambino Family in recent years. His opposition, Chris Taylor, is unparalleled in PWX. A man who shattered records and silenced skeptics when he held the PWX Title for over one year, Taylor has shown an amazing amount of heart and determination, and may be PWX’s most popular athlete. Whether it was his size or the plethora of obstacles put in his way by the evil AWC hierarchy, Taylor always faces challenge head-on. Now he’ll have the challenge of figuring out Jimmy DeMarco on March 8.

Special Appearance by JT Rodgers

It has been over four years since JT Rodgers has been inside a wrestling ring. In December 2003, he left the world of professional wrestling and, with the exception of a May 2004 cameo, hasn’t looked back. March 8 will be a historic return of a man who dominated tag team wrestling in Pittsburgh in the early part of the decade as one-half of Sexual Harassment. Does JT Rodgers have ring action in his plans for this one-night return? What will happen when JT Rodgers and Eric Xtasy cross paths for the first time in years?

Gambino Brothers Open Challenge

They are the most dominant tag team in the region today by far. Four time IWC tag team champions Mickey & Marshall Gambino have made life miserable for all that oppose them. With a ruthless style and cut-throat lawless tendencies, Mickey & Marshall have done everything from gang assaults to home invasions. On March 8, Mickey & Marshall will be in search of competition, for any team in the Pittsburgh area brave enough to mess with the Family. Who will be brave enough to stand up to the challenge?

In addition to these already confirmed attractions…

Pick Your Partner: Shirley Doe & CJ Sensation vs. Super Hentai & Dirk Ciglar

Shirley Doe and Super Hentai are nearly synonymous with one another thanks to an extremely emotional love/hate relationship that has stretched back several years. Super Hentai was Devil Bhudakahn’s chief rival in the early days of each man’s career. Both men solidified their reputation in the area with high-risk, fast-paced offense with each match turning into a dangerous game of “Can You Top This?”. When Devil thought he needed help to put Hentai behind him once and for all, The Hellfire Club was formed, with none other than the madman himself, Shirley Doe, joining Devil as a charter member. On March 8, the rivalry is revisited as Doe and Hentai clash for the first time in nearly five years, with the added high stakes of each man selecting his own tag team partner which will not be revealed until the night of the event. Their last meeting was a Texas Death Match legendary for its brutality. What will Doe and Hentai do to one another this time?

Shirley Doe has opted to choose “Snapshot” CJ Sensation as his tag team partner. Sensation, who was the first man to don the mask and assume the identity of the infamous “Mantis” persona, stood side-by-side both Doe and Devil in The Hellfire Club in their quest to destroy Super Hentai. Hentai now knows old foes are re-aligning for one last shot at destroying him.

Super Hentai has revealed his choice of tag team partner and it’s none other than “The Screaming Climax” Dirk Ciglar! Hentai & Ciglar have a noted history of friendship and fighting alongside one another, but have not teamed together in four years. Will they have the chemistry and continuity to overcome the re-united Hellfire Club? Or will Doe and the original Mantis once again have Hentai’s number?

Sterling James Keenan vs. Mr. Wrestling III

A contrast in styles if there ever was one as two very distinct and unique personalities will clash in one of the evening’s feature bouts. One, Sterling James Keenan, is infamous as a calculated evil genius. The man behind “Iron City Hardcore” has conquered the world, appearing in virtually every major promotion in existence, and winning championships on multiple continents. His opposition is a transplant from another era of thought. A man who stands for the class and tradition that this fine sport was built upon: Mr. Wrestling III, the latest in a succession of skilled athletes to don the trademark white mask and carry on the namesake of Mr. Wrestling. Sterling has promised he has something special in store for Mr. Wrestling III, but will it be enough? Will the time-tested tactics of the Mr. Wrestling school of thought be enough to tame SJK? Or will Mr. Wrestling III be forced to follow the creed encrypted across Sterling’s own knuckles: “Stay Down”?

Dennis Gregory vs. Crusher Hansen

Devil Bhudakahn had a vision of Pittsburgh’s top professional wrestlers and wrestling organizations coming together in support of a good cause. It’s only fitting that in a show dedicated to his memory, that vision become a reality. Such a vision is not represented any better than with Dennis Gregory vs. Crusher Hansen. From his days as Bonecrusher, all the way to his current incarnation, Hansen has been a mainstay and major force in PWX for well over a decade. Meanwhile, Dennis Gregory’s dominance in the International Wrestling Cartel (as well as its predecessor, Steel City Wrestling), can be traced back to over a decade as well. Both men are among the most decorated athletes of their respective home promotion, and are perhaps as synonymous with their home promotion as anybody else, past or present. It’s a one-time opportunity to watch these two Pittsburgh legends meet in a collision of two very different worlds.

Sexual Harassment vs. The Devil’s Advocates

It was the rivalry that dominated tag team wrestling in this area in 2002-2003. A war that saw bones broken, dreams shattered, and two very contrasting lifestyles do whatever it took to become the best in the region. Month in and month out, Devil Bhudakahn led the Advocates into battle against Sexual Harassment, and no matter what the stakes or stipulations, fans were always left with confrontations they would not soon forget. The IWC Tag Team Titles changed hands a staggering five times during this rivalry, a testament to its competitive nature and constant high stakes. On March 8, these two sides collide for the first time in nearly five years, renewing a tag team series still fresh on the minds of all who witnessed it.

“Balls Hot” Troy Lords vs. Jason Gory

Arguably two of the most improved area stars in recent times, both Lords and Gory have taken their game to new heights. For Troy, “Balls Hot” has been “balls to the wall” since rising to the occasion and capturing his first major singles title, the IWC Super Indy Title, in early-2007. The young veteran has pushed himself farther and harder than most in order to prove all his critics that he is truly deserving of his accolades. Meanwhile, Jason Gory has thrived in the tag team ranks, recently capturing the IWC Tag Team Title with partner Shiima Xion, a title he now holds for the second time. Two men who love to push the envelope and take risks, these men definitely embody the spirit and the mindset that Super Hentai and Devil Bhudakahn had during their classic rivalry nearly a decade ago.

CWF Heavyweight Title: The Beast vs. Powerhouse Hughes

The Championship Wrestling Federation, based in southwest Pennsylvania, has been a staple of wrestling in the region for many years, hosting some of the area’s most promising young stars and well-respected veterans. It was also one of the promotions Devil Bhudakahn called home before his tragic passing. CWF will be well represented at the Devil Bhudakahn Memorial Show, as its most dominant champion defends against perhaps its greatest champion. The Beast has dominated CWF since capturing its top prize, gaining a staggering nineteen straight victories. His top student, and perhaps the greatest CWF Champion in history, Powerhouse Hughes, is the current top challenger and looks to reclaim the title he once held for over one full year. It’s the first ever meeting between teacher and student with very high stakes and deep meaning.

Special Appearance by Bubba the Bulldog

One of the most infamous and controversial personalities in the history of the area, wherever Bubba goes, news is bound to break. The former and once-again B-94 Morning Show host has accomplished a track record nearly second-to-none. In his PWX days, he fought hard to disprove critics who said he’d never be a success, not only capturing gold but leading his own stable “The Dog Pound”. In IWC, he was responsible for the termination of the careers of men like Shane Douglas and Eric Angle. Not to mention numerous WWE cameos throughout the years as well. What does Bubba have in store on March 8th with the eyes of everyone in Pittsburgh looking on?

Special Appearance by Quinn Magnum

Another longtime staple and legendary name in the Pittsburgh wrestling scene, Quinn Magnum at long last returns to the public eye. Magnum spent many years atop the PWX card, capturing championships and forging an indelible reputation. Still one of the most respected veterans in the area, when Quinn Magnum makes his presence known on March 8th, everyone will have no choice but to take notice.

Ticket prices are $15 for front row, $10 General Admission. RAW (1/14): After the Bell Tolls!

The Kingfish Arnie Katz brings you all the highlights and sidelights on Monday’s TV show.

Before going live to Jeff Hardy in Mobile, AL., a lengthy video that showed highlights of the incredible Umaga-Jeff Hardy cage match from last week’s show.

Jeff Hardy said he was excited, but the Intercontinental Champion was also frustrated about not being able to fulfill his vow to destroy Orton. “It’s like this, Orton,” he said. “You either come out here or I’ll come back there and find you!”

After a suspenseful pause, Randy Orton took up a position on the upper stage. After waiting out the “You suck!” chants, Randy Orton said the only way he world give Hardy another crack at him before Royal Rumble would be if the Rainbow Warrior was willing to put title against title.

Orton explained that he wanted to be the third wrestler in history to simultaneously hold both belts. Hardy agreed and the match will take place on next week’s RAW.

Orton finished by saying that he was glad of the match, because he didn’t have anything to do until Royal Rumble, because Hardy doesn’t have any brothers left for him to kick in the head.

Melina, Jillian Hall & Vet Phoenix d. Maria, Mickie Hanes & Ashley
Six-Woman Tag Team Match

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler chatted about the Divas, trying to build them up as something more than eye candy. Some of the women have a long way to go before they will be capable of working uninteresting match, but others like Mickie James, Beth Phoenix and Jillian Hall, seem to have more command in the ring. Maria also deserves praise for how much she has improved, not to mention the almost unearthly perfect of her body.

Mickie James and Beth Phoenix seemed to focus on each other. Their seesaw battle in this match suggests that the former champion might be the next to work a program with the Blonde Glamazon.

Phoenix chinned Mickie on the top rope and followed quickly with a Fisherman’s Suplex. She covered the win!

Grade: C+

In his backstage office, Mr. McMahon told William Regal that he had absolutely confidence in his ability to defeat Ric Flair and end his career.

The WWE’s Chairman again proved himself a master diplomat when he told Regal that if the United States was going to get an enema, they’d stick the hose in Mobile, AL.

Snitsky barged into the office and said he was ready to “make an impact.” Nr, McMahon gave the huge baldy what it said he wanted, which turned into a match against Triple H.

A video reminded fans about last year’s “Royal Rumble” match. It came down to Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker, before the Deadman claimed victory and a title shot at last year’s WrestleMania.

Before his match, Shawn Michaels vented his ire at Mr. Kennedy. He harped on his desire for revenge until the fans must’ve thought that Mr. Kennedy would actually be his opponent for the night.

The Showstoppa also complained about having to win a qualifying match to get into the Rumble. After all, he declared, he had won two of them and finished second only last year!

Just as Michaels worked himself into a fine lather, out came his actual adversary, Trevor Murdoch.!

Shawn Michaels d. Trevor Murdoch
Royal Rumble Qualifying Match

Michaels started with a Wristlock, but Murdoch shot him into the ropes and clubbed him to the canvas with a Forearm on the rebound. He hit a Reverse Atomic Drop and again sent Michaels to the mat, where he punished him with a Rear Chinlock.

HBK mounted a comeback that climaxed with a series of chops that could be heard all over the arena.

Michaels hit a Thesz Press and then a Flying Forearm off the ropes. He paid back Murdoch in full for an earlier move by uncorking his own Reverse Atomic Drop and then a Bodyslam!

HBK hit a Flying Elbow from the top turnbuckle and immediately began to tune up Sweet Chin Music. He skittered across the ring, but Murdoch somehow avoided the devastating kick!

Shawn Michaels showed why he is still one of the elite by immediately cinching in an Inverted Figure Four! That was all it took to send HBK to this year’s Royal Rumble.

Grade: B-

Mr. Kennedy came on the Titantrom. He taunted Michaels, claiming that he had past Michaels among the ranks of wrestlers.

After a lot of similar stuff, Kennedy said he would give Michaels one more chance to get him in a match on next week’s RAW.

HBK took out his anger on Trevor Murdoch, whom he felled with a surprise Sweet Chin Music.

They showed a WrestleMania VI clip in which Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior fought with both the heavyweight and Intercontinental straps at stake.

Him Ross and Jerry Lawler did a full review of the upcoming Royal Rumble pay per view card. It’s interesting to see how the Rumble itself has steadily become less important to the show that bears its name.

Live backstage, Mr. McMahon expressed both pride and concern about Hornswoggle entering the Royal Rumble. Under the guise of “tough love,” Mr. McMahon announced that his diminutive son would have to survive a mini-Rumble loaded with WWE superstars to prove that he can handle the actual event.

When Hornswoggle seemed daunted by the prospect, Vince flew into a rage and grabbed the little guy by the throat. “You’re name is ‘McMahon,” and don’t you forget it,” Vince scolded.

Snitsky d. Triple H by DQ

Jim Ross told fans to expect the kind of brawl they might see on “the redneck Riviera.”

Snitsky showed a lot of guts by going directly at Triple H, backing him into a corner with a barrage of punches. HHH reversed, but a knee to his midsection sent the multi-time champion reeling! Snitsky added several more knees before whipping Triple H into the opposite turnbuckle. Yet when The Game ricocheted off the ropes, it was he who felled his opponent with a tremendous Forearm.

They simultaneously tried Shoulder Blocks, which caused a jarring mid-ring collision. Snitsky wanted to give it another try, but when he charged across the ring, the Cerebral Assassin low-bridged him. Snitsky tumbled to the arena floor!

Back from commercial break, Snitsky was using Triple H as a punching bag, He beat him down in the corner and kept him there with vicious stomps.

Snitsky cornered Triple H and made him pay with three Shoulder Blocks to the midsection! The big bald Guy shot Triple H into the opposite turnbuckle, Triple H bounced right back to him and suffered a Side Slam! Snitsky continued the assault with a Bodyslam and an Elbow Drop, but HHH got his shoulder off the canvas in time!

Triple H rebounded off the ropes with lethal intent, but Snitsky grappled him in a Bearhug. It wasn’t classic, but The Game fought for breath Just when it seemed Triple H might have to submit, he maneuvered his foe into position for a ring-shaking DDT!

Triple H scored with the Spinebuster, but Snitsky turned an attempted Pedigree into a Back Body Drop that deposited The Game on the arena floor. Snitsky stampeded HHH into the ring steps. He tried to clobber Triple H with the steps, but the Cerebral Assassin, but the intended victim seized the stairs. The referee rang the bell and disqualified Triple H!

Grade: C+

The Game grabbed his trusty sledgehammer and, back in the ring, gave Snitsky a couple of whacks!

“You become more violent and more angry every week, just because you’re not part of the Royal Rumble match,” Mr. McMahon told Triple H from the safety of the Titantron. “You’d better calm down.” Triple H did exactly the opposite; he took out his anger on the Titantron, smashing through the screen with his sledgehammer!

Coming out of commercial, Mr. McMahon was reading Triple H the riot act for his behavior. “I can’t trust you. Therefore, you’re back in the Royal Rumble,” said Mr. McMahon with somewhat esoteric logic.

Then the WWE’s chairman clarified his statement. Triple H must win his match next week against a mystery opponent to qualify for the Rumble.

A video showed how Chris Jericho spoiled JBL’s EAW debut.

Back live, a blonde chauffeur opened the back door of a limo and out stepped the Cowboy Windbag.

Plenty of pyro preceded thaw most ambitious balloon drop I’ve ever seen at a wrestling show. By the time it stopped, the ring and a good part of the stands were covered by the red and black balloons.

John Bradshaw Leyfield spoke directly to Chris Jericho in a manner reminiscent of his feud with Eddie Guerrero. He wanted him to admit to his children that Leyfield is the better man. During this high voltage rant, JBL also got across the information that Jericho was at home, nursing a bruised larynx

The fireworks for JBL’s exit were larger and flashier than most superstar entrances. They are clearly trying to bring him back to main event status as quickly as possible without too much ring-time.

There was so much smoke that you could hardly see Lillian Garcia as she announced the competitors of the next match!

The Mini-Rumble

It turned out to be, literally, a min-Rumble, because all the participants were pretty much the same size as Hornswoggle. Each was dressed like his big counterpart, though I suspect the mini-Kennedy also makes a dollar by imitating Bart Simpson.

The way each of the participants mimicked the famous wrestlers made it somewhat entertaining, if not exactly the height of ring drama.

After Hornswoggle won, Great Khali came out to menace him. Finley made the rescue . Later, in Mr. McMahon’s office,, he learned that he will have to fight Great Khali on Smackdown this Friday.

The conversation had more veiled references to a “deal” between them. A secret is waiting to be revealed.

Ric Flair d. William Regal
A loss Retires Flair

While neither man will ever again be confused with a young wrestler, both Ric Flair and William Regal looked great in their lavish robes as they promenaded to the ring for the main event of the evening..

Also helping Regal’s appearance is his recent haircut and re-styling. It gives him a much younger appearance and is especially effective with the arena fans that don’t see close-ups of his heavily lined face.

Regal was firmly in charge when RAW came back from commercial break. Regal worked on Flair’s left knee and applied a Half Boston Crab. The British Thug prevented Flair from turning it into his Figure Four, but couldn’t stop the Nature Boy from reaching the ropes. While Regal argued with the referee, he stomped Flair a few times for good measure.

Flair, standing in the ringside area, smashed Regal’s leg against the post. Flair rushed back inside in time to crash Regal to the mat with a Chop Block.

Flair clamped on the Figure Four. It looked like Regal was caught in the center of the ring, but the man from Blackpool, England, used his strength to force his way to the rope!

Flair seized a Side Headlock and stampeded Regal into the ropes. Regal executed a Reverse Roll-up that nearly stole the match! Flair reacted quickly and leveraged it into a small package for the pin that preserved his career.

Grade: B

Jeff Hardy d. Randy Orton by DQ
Intercontinental Championship

After a video again reminded fans about this feud, Jim Ross expressed sympathy for the recuperating Matt Hardy.

The bell rang and the combatants closed for a Collar and Elbow. Except that Orton low-blowed Hardy, which caused the referee to disqualify the World Champion.

“The show’s not over yet!” Orton screamed, “Trust me when I say you do not want to miss this!”

Randy Orton threw Hardy out of the ring and uncovered a portion of the cement floor. He was thinking RKO, but Jeff Hardy overwhelmed him with punches and the two fought up the ramp to the upper stage. The advantages seesawed, with neither man willing to stay down. Orton lined up his adversary for one of those devastating Running Kicks, but again Hardy surprised the champion by launching him skyward with a Back Body Drop!

Orton flew over a railing and down to a hard landing.

The fans went berserk as Hardy climbed the set’s metal scaffolding to a cross beam that looked about 10 feet high – and then went to an even higher one that could’ve been double that distance.

Then he flew threw the air with a Swanton Bomb and landed with a thump and a spray of whitish dust! A low wall hid the point of impact for both men, so fans couldn’t see what had happened until the camera closed in at about the same time as the EMT’s were starting to minister to the fallen wrestlers.

The show ended as the medical men got the bodies onto gurneys and began to roll them away. A fan called out to Jeff Hardy and the Rainbow Warrior somehow found the strength to raise his hand in a salute to tell us he was going to be all right.

Grade (as an angle): A (a stunt, but well doen)

NWA Upstate (1/12): WrestleBowl ‘08

NWA Upstate returned to action Saturday January 12th with its first show of the new year, WrestleBowl ‘08. On the heels of Upstate’s last show, Holiday Hangover, it would be interesting to see what would happen as a bitter feud came to a bloody, violent feud, another feud has started involving a rival promotion, and many titles were up for grabs including the Upstate World Heavyweight Title.

Preshow
The Dustytaker defeated “The Rochester Bulldozer” DewMaga
The show started with a remtach from Holiday Hangover pitting The Deadman Reffin’ against Upstate’s Man of Many Gimmicks in Dewey, this time as The Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga. DewMaga tried to gain the upper hand attacking The Dustytaker before the bell rang. Once inside the ring, The Rochester Bulldozer once again fell prey to a thunderous chokeslam and Dustytaker once again got the victory. Rumor has it that after the match Dewey said that he wasn’t done with The Dustytaker and that he wouldn’t rest until he put him away once and for all. What does Dewey mean, and what could he possibly have in store for the Dustytaker? Hopefully we’ll have more on this in the coming weeks.

Main Show
NWA Upstate Six-Man Champions The Latin Soldiers defeated Spazz, Mark Krieger, & Chip Stetson
The Latin Soldiers (Luis Whiteshoes, Maximo Suave, & Stargazer), who won the Six-Man Trophy at Holiday Hangover, made their first defense of the trophy a successful one against the unpredictable psycho from the Shady Acres Mental Institute and his two mystery partners, Mark Krieger and Chip Stetson, who were both former Upstate Six-Man champions themselves. The champions isolated Spazz and hit a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo with Maximo getting the pin. It looks as if Whiteshoes & Maximo, who feuded for most of last year, are on the same page and the trio from Puerto Rico have gelled very well as a team.

Gabe Saint & NWA Upstate No Limits Champion Cheech defeated CloudLee (”One Hit Wonder” Cloudy & “The Right Stuff” Brodie Lee)
This was a special challenge match made from Holiday Hangover when CloudLee interrupted Gabe & Cheech after their title match. Back and forth match that saw some miscommunication with Saint & Cheech as Saint accidentally hit Cheech thinking he was Cloudy. Saint apologized, but the No Limits Champion wouldn’t hear it, leaving the ring and walking out on his partner. Despite the 2-on-1 advantage, CloudLee couldn’t put The Bull of Black Mountain away. Frustrated with themselves and the referee, Brodie Lee went after referee Andrew Mollon and he and Cloudy were going to give him the Cloudy Killer (powerbomb/lungblower combo). But Saint hit Cloudy as he strattled the top turnbuckle and had enough left to rollup Brodie Lee for the three-count. Saint overcame the odds to get the win, but one has to wonder if the respect he had for his partner is still there?

Sweet Lou (w/Col. Johnny Kayfabe) defeated “The Exceptional Icon” Eric Everlast
This match was demanded by Eric Everlast after Sweet Lou decided to “go back to his roots” and team up with Rhythm & Booze at Holiday Hangover instead of Everlast & Triple X in their defense of the Six Man Trophy. Much to Everlast’s and the fans’ surprise, Col. Johnny Kayfabe came out with Sweet Lou and was instrumental in the victory. Everlast seemingly had the match in hand when Col. Kayfabe distracted the referee, Super Assassin and Triple X came out and attacked Eric Everlast. The interference along with a vicious spear equaled a victory for Sweet Lou. Super Assassin & Triple X, upset with Everlast for turning on them and costing them the Six-Man Trophy at Holiday Hangover, gained a small measure of revenge for Everlast’s actions. Suffice to say the loss has not sit well The Exceptional Icon and there’s no doubt somewhere down the road he’ll be looking to even the score with his former partners.

Tag Team Champions Rhythm & Booze defeated The Ring Crew Express in a Lynchburg Death Match
This was the much anticipated, first time ever Lynchburg Death Match and the culmination of a bitter rivalry between two of the best teams in Upstate. It was an anything goes, falls-count-anywhere street fight that will go down as one of the bloodiest, most violent matches in Upstate history. Everything from ladders to belts to bullropes to hay bales were used as all four men beat the hell out of each other. Even Col. Kayfabe wasn’t safe as he took a spear from Nikki Jett and brutal guitar shot from Marcos. Sweet Lou, though, came out as he helped pull Dunn out toward the aisle where Buddy Delmar smashed a beer bottle over Dunn’s head! Back inside, Delmar & Frank The Tank continued their assault tying up Marcos with the bullropes to the ringposts so Marcos couldn’t escape. Frank hit Marcos with their Confederate Crunch (top rope splash) to get the pin. The champs from Lynchburg retained their gold, but how much did the win take out of them and The Ring Crew Express?

“D To The Icky” Dicky Sanchez & “The Havana Pitbull” Ricky Reyes defeated 2CW’s Slyck Wagner Brown & “Hurricane” John Walters by disqualification
The match between D To The Icky and Ricky Reyes was interrupted by the 2CW contingent, who were going to make an impact and answer the challenge laid down by NWA Upstate owner Hellcat from 2 weeks ago. It started with Zachary Springate grabbing the mic and proclaiming that wrestling had finally come back to Rochester. Springate went on to rundown Upstate and its fans and put over Slyk as “wrestling’s best kept secret” and said that Walters could wrestle circles around anyone in Upstate. Well The Boss had heard enough as Hellcat came out. Hellcat said that since 2CW wanted to make an impact and that Dicky & Reyes were pissed off that their match was interrupted, he would put them in a tag match with Slyk/Walters vs. Dicky/Reyes. Hellcat also said that since Springate and Love didn’t have managers’ licenses, neither of them could be at ringside and security escorted both Springate and Love out of the building. As for the match, Brown and Walters were in control until both men got frustrated and shoved down referee Andrew Mollon forcing the DQ. Slyk and Walters continued their attack on D To The Icky until Reyes chased both men off with a steel chair. So it was Upstate who came out on top against 2CW, but is this the last we’ve heard from the rival promotion out of Syracuse?

NWA National Heavyweight Champion Pepper Parks defeated Cody Deaner
Another back and forth match that was a good showing by Deaner as he came close on several occassions of becoming the new champion. But a rollup by Parks with his feet on the ropes for leverage and “The Patrick Swayze of Professional Wrestling” retained his title. The champion’s tactics are definitely questionable and haven’t sit well with the fans. But one can’t argue his success as he comes into the new year with a lot of momentum. Deaner, who was once hated by the fans, has definitely turned over a new leaf and received in a nice ovation from the fans for his efforts.

NWA Empire Tag Team Champions The McCloud Brothers defeated Super Assassin & Triple X
The McCloud Brothers made their first defense of the Empire Tag Team Titles a successful one against two-thirds of the former Upstate Six-Man Tag Team Champions. The brothers from Boston were in sync throughout the match while the challengers were anything but. The masked duo did take control and scored a few near-falls, but the champions rebounded and hit Triple X with the Boston Massacre (double-team lungblower) to get the win. The fighting Irishmen continued their winning ways and have a lot of momentum in their quest to become Upstate Tag Team Champions.

“The Notorious BCL” Big Cat Lemmer defeated Coconut Jones
Suffice to say, The Notorious BCL was not in a good mood and it showed here as he made quick work of Coconut Jones, winning with the BCL Driver (Death Valley Driver). Lemmer didn’t seem too happy with his competition, or lack thereof, and rumor has it he let Upstate officials know about it after the match. We’ll keep an eye out on this situation in the weeks to come.

NWA Upstate World Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Olsen defeated “Fabulous” John McChesney (w/Star Rider) and Danny Doring in a triple threat match
This was the main event pitting the champion against two of his top contenders, one a former Upstate champion in Doring, the other being the man who felt he would’ve been champion in McChesney had in not been for Doring’s interference. This one saw all three men go at it tooth and nail. In the end, it was Olsen who knocked Doring to the outside, leaving him alone with McChesney. McChesney went for his Fabulous Fallout but Olsen countered hitting his overbomb/piledriver combo to get the pin. Olsen retained the Upstate World Title but one has to wonder which man, Fabulous and/or Doring, will be looking to get a rematch for the gold.
