Annie’s View
Miss Ayn returns with her Views on the Congressional steroid investigations.

Hello Viewers,
Well here I am. Not as soon as I wanted to be but, still, I’m here and ready to write.
I want to thank all of you that have been writing me giving me your Views and thoughts, opinions and please, keep them coming as I so love to hear from you. I’m going to make this short and to the point and then put in some of the comments that I have been receiving from all of you. So here we go.
So the word on the street is that Congress has decided to investigate the world of wrestling. Well, good for them. I think it should be investigated and, if Chris Benoit did nothing else for the sport of wrestling, let’s hope that his life and the lives of his family members get the ball rolling and make Congress put the sports world under a microscope.
That’s right. I said sports world. I don’t mean just wrestling. No, there are other sports out there that pass around steroids like some kind of gym locker candy and I for one am really sick of it. However, it seems that wrestling is the one taking the biggest beating as of late. Of course that’s because nothing has shocked any sports more than Chris Benoit not only killing himself but his entire family. That alone sent shivers all around the world. People that I know that don’t even like or watch wrestling know of both, Owen Hart’s tragic death and of course, the latest with the Benoit family. Both tragic both preventable.
Benoit’s death is the newest in a string of athlete’s that have killed themselves due to steroid use. I’m going to go back as far as I can remember with Lyle Alzado who died from Cancer due to steroid use. A famous football star who, was the first person that I know of to go public and say his Cancer was due to steroid use. He begged everyone to never try much less do steroids. Lyle was a shadow of a man before his death and his dying shocked everyone in the world of sports. He shined in Football but this is what he is remembered for.
Sadly, Benoit will be remembered for killing his family and himself rather than the excitement he gave whenever entering the squared circle. Which, in my View, is very sad and disappointing. I believe it wasn’t just drugs that killed that entire family but a condition that went un-noticed and untreated. However, I’m not saying steroids didn’t play a part. In fact, they played a major part in these lives being lost.
So why Vince or anyone else that’s in sports or sports entertainment is upset that congress wants to do this really gives me pause.
Why?
Because simply put, I’m beginning to think that every wrestler should be tested on the day they’re going to wrestle. Or throw a football, or baseball or whatever it is they do. Which brings me to……
Why is Congress ONLY coming down on wrestling? Sure, one could say that it’s due to the fact that Chris Benoit’s the latest but I say No, not really. Sure, possibly in wrestling that holds true but what about baseball.
That’s right. Baseball.
The great American pastime that everyone seems to love. What about Jose Conseco’s interview on sixty minutes talking about his best selling book, Juiced, where he comes right out and not only says that he took steroids but everyone did. Conseco goes on to say that he wouldn’t have been as big of a star without them. I believe this.
Yet, it continues. Barry Bond’s has been under fire lately for the same thing. They all deny it. They all say they don’t take them or never have or, ‘yeah, tried them, didn’t like it so I stopped’. And yet, they’re all making huge amounts of money, own great homes and live really good lives. What bothers me is they’re actually breaking records. Bond’s recently broke Hank Arron’s and I for one, don’t think we should count it.
The Beatles had a hit song ‘I get by with a little help from my friends.’ People love this song. It’s all about drugs. What kind? Your preference really. And to me, in my View, this is how all the records are being broken. With help. From friends. Sad really.
Chris Benoit was tested in April for steroids and passed. So, I’m now confused. Did he pass the test that said he took them or that he didn’t? of course it said he didn’t take them. So, Benoit was free to wrestle. Bond’s is free to break another home run record as well. The list goes on.
A few years ago, Lance Armstrong was accused of using steroids to win the Tour de France so many times in a row.
They’re everywhere. It needs to stop. If congress can stop some other seven year old little boy from dying at the hands of his Dad, then I’m all for Congress doing what they have to do.
Maybe they should start with the owners of these teams, federations etc. Maybe all the coaches of baseball, football, basketball should roll up their sleeves first. Maybe Vince McMahon should be the first one tested in the WWE. Something needs to be done. NOW.
I loved Chris Benoit. I thought he had so much talent and I was so happy to see him along with Eddy win the belt finally. Both men tried for so long to get the respect they both deserved. Or so I thought. My Grandson’s favorite wrestler was Eddy Guerrero. Do you know what it was like to see his face when I told him Eddy was dead? I wonder how Vicki did it? Yes, I loved Benoit. And now when I hear his name I see a little boy lying dead with a Bible next to his lifeless body.
Something needs to be done……NOW.
From a great friend and Viewer named Julie who wrote this about Chris Benoit:
Well Annie,
I think the Chris Benoit murder and suicide of himself and his family was horrible. It brings out just how serious this addiction that many professional and non-professionals need to realize and that is there is no place for it in your body. As far as ruining wrestling, wrestling was ruined for me a long time ago when Bret Hart was forced to retire. I do think that it shows everyone that Vince knows who is taking them and has let it go on for way too long. Hopefully something good will come out of this and hopefully wrestlers and other pro athletes will take note of how it can affect your mind, body and soul. Murder, suicide and steroid rage is no laughing matter.
I agree. With this being the topic right now. Steroids. My Question of the Week is: Should Congress get involved?
And I do want to ask you this as well so QOTW 2 is: Should Chris Benoit be allowed into the Hall of Fame?
That’s it for this week Viewers. Until next time be good or be like me, good doing it.
