I know this is a July blog and its already the middle of August, but I found myself rather un motivated to write about July and here is why… On paper, July looked to be a hot month for bookings as well as my trip back home, my other home back up in Edmonton, Canada. My foot which I broke in my match against Xavier in June has been feeling better everyday (and still haven’t missed a booking cuz of it). But right from the get go however, things started off LAME. D2W out of Pensylvania had a show for July 1st which got rescheduled till later in the summer. That took me to July 8th and my official Connecticut debut with Joel Gertner’s MXW. I wrestled Kristian Frost. We were told our match had a 10 minute time limit and was a “lightning match”. Neither of us were too sure what a lightning match was, but we just chalked up the name to the short time limit. Due to the fact we were both heels, we really wanted to make sure we kept people’s attention as it is common for fans to shit on a heel/heel match due to the messed up psychology. We both established that we were heels through comedic spots of trying to out-cheat each other.

After a few minutes, however, we agreed to shake hands (left handed of course) which led to a double clothesline. As soon as we got up, the comedy stuff was over and it was time to kick some ass. I lit up Frost then hit a running missile back elbow. He countered with a burrito. We traded move for move as well as trying to win with a rollup and a handful of tights.

With less than 30 seconds left, I hit a powerbomb on Frost and scaled to the top for my elbow. The ceiling was unflatteringly low but I still nailed him. As the ref’s hand hit 2 the bell rang signaling the time limit. The crowd chanted “3 more minutes” as I cut a promo to Gertner about restarting the match. Joel said that he would book a re-match for Aug 25 in a 20 min time limit with Iron Man rules; meaning most pinfalls inside the time limit would declare the winner…. of course I’m coming out on top in that one….

The hot month would get even cooler as a fed out of Michigan which had April and I booked for the last 3 Tuesdays in July ran into “venue issues” and cancelled the shows till further notice. If you’re keeping score, not even half way through the month and I’m already out 4 pay offs…. If you workout, check out www.hotbodz.com as they have some sweet shirts tailored to guys who are fit. I have several myself and highly recommend their products. If you drop them a line, make sure you let them know you were referred by me.

Some great news would arrive a few days later as TNT Pro Wrestling owner Marvin Ward called to let us know that TNT signed a 3 year TV deal with a new channel; MavTV which will have us on Wednesday nights, 9pm on some 2 million homes. Check out TNT Pro Wrestling http://www.tntprowrestling.com/ for more info. But the parade would be rained on once again as Dragongate: Impact which would have been arguably the hottest show of the summer had the plug pulled for no legit reason. Many people and workers I have talked to find something very fishy to be with this situation as another fed ran the very next night @ Alhambra using the DG guys and Sumie Sakai was selling tix just hours before the show was cancelled… Could the other fed have had something to do with the plug being pulled so they could potentially get all the fans instead of the fan base being split over 2 nights? Naw….but wait, this is the wrestling business….so I’m officially out 5 pay days for the month which really starts to suck.

This took me back to Maryland Championship Wrestling at the base in Fort Mead on the 22nd. April, Talia and myself were at the show on the 9th which was the Shane Shamrock Memorial tourney where TnA debuted. This trip was just me and my woman. The winner of the tourney was Ruckus which also saw him take the MCW Cruiserweight title off Chris Sabin. Ruckus’ first title defense was against yours truly.

It was interesting match to say the least as Ruckus has lots of trademark spots, but he also has some psychology so I knew we could have a good one.

The venue was scortching hot and everyone was drenched in sweat just sitting there, throw in well over 500 fans and the place was cooking…

Some chain wrestling ended with me hitting the floor via a head scissors. He dived through the ropes but in mid air I smoked him (no pun intended) with a forearm to the face. He reversed a whip into the post then hit me with a kart-wheel, double handspring moonsault on the hot asphalt. I moved out of the way of his next highspot and layed a beating to him. A missed swanton on my part allowed Ruckus to hit me with a kick to the face, one to the stomach then a fame-asser, but I kicked out, ducked his shot and hit him with a powerbomb/backbreaker over my knee. I missed a HUGE leg drop off the top and took several of Ruckus’ flying stomps instead. He couldn’t keep me down though, I powerbombed him through the mat and hit the big elbow SuperStarStyle. But I wasn’t content. I set him up for a superplex and with both of us standing on the top rope, he crotched me to which I fell in the tree of woah only to be hit with yet another double stomp. Ruckus picked up the win after setting up a chair against my face and executing a 360 Van Terminator…. I will live to fight another day however, and he ain’t seen the last of me.

My last booking of the month on the 30th I had to pull off of as the US government had informed April and myself that our fiance’ visa had been approved and we needed to pick it up in Vancouver… but before that I had to see a doctor of their choice in Edmonton, get x-rays, blood work, police report, and more passport pix within 7 days prior to Vancouver. My family is all in Edmonton so it was also a bonus as I haven’t seen them since the beginning of the year. We got the Visa on August 1st and are currently sorting out our wedding plans as we have only 90 days before the visa expires.

We are shooting for an August 30th wedding… VIVA LAS VEGAS! I posted my match from June for Victory Pro Wrestling in Long Island, NY against former ROH champion Xavier. This was the match where I broke my heel before the 2 min mark and Xavier was working with a injured shoulder…but we didn’t hold back, nor could you tell either of us was really injured. The match is in 2 parts on either Youtube or my website www.JDMICHAELS.net — JD vs Xavier part 1 & JD vs Xavier part 2 .

Go see Talladega Nights: The ballad of Ricky Bobby ….some of Will Ferrell’s movies get slightly stale as he generally has the same persona, but this movie was pretty damn funny. Take it easy, and sleazy…
